Propeller 2012 Competition Launch at The Copper House Gallery
Fire are delighted to announce the 2012 Propeller Competition to be launched Wednesday 11th January 2012 at the opening of ‘Coal Story’, a photographic exhibition by Darek Fortas at The Copper House Gallery. This annual competition is open to all final year students in photography or fine art through photography.
Each finalist will receive a prize of €1,000 in fine art printing services as well as participate in a group show at The Copper House Gallery at the end of June. The winner will receive a prize worth €10,000 comprising an Artist’s residency and exhibition. The winner will also receive Individual mentoring from John Duncan at Source Magazine.
The inaugural Fire Propeller Competition, an annual award open to all final year visual arts students, was held in June 2011. The 2011 Propeller judges were John Duncan editor of Source magazine, Trish Lambe from The Gallery of Photography, Peter Reddy of Redman AKA and The Copper House Gallery curator Leszek Wolnik.The first Propeller exhibition was launched on 20th July 2011 at The Copper House Gallery and featured work from the five Propeller finalists: winner Darek Fortas and the shortlisted artists who included Dee O’Shea NCAD, Dorje Deburgh IADT, Ronan McCall IADT and Anna Wickham DIT.
As part of the Propeller prize fund, Darek Fortas has recently started his eight week residency at The Copper House Gallery, in preparation for his solo photographic exhibition. ‘Coal Story’, a photographic exhibition by Darek Fortas will be running at The Copper House Gallery from 11th January until 3rd February 2012.
